Lyrically Speaking for November 26

I hope everyone is gearing up for a fantastic Thanksgiving. I wanted to bring Lyrically Speaking back for a special Wednesday, pre-Thanksgiving edition for everyone. A turkey day tradition for me has been listening to the song Alice's Restaurant by Arlo Guthrie. This is a folk song that is just Guthrie telling a story about him and a friend going up to a town called Stockbridge Massachusetts to visit for Thanksgiving. The hilarity of walking into a 'one-horse town' ensue and the song is quite funny. I have listened to this song almost every Thanksgiving for as long as I can remember.

Now, the song is quite long coming in at over 20 minutes, but keep in mind the story is so funny and just something that drags you in. It's more spoken-word than anything. I think you'll enjoy it also if you have a few minutes to spare and also if you enjoy silly humor.

Now, unfortunately if you click here to see it on iTunes, it's only available to purchase on Album Only. Amazon is the same way, so there's no way to get the song on its own. I still hope you all enjoy it. This is my Thanksgiving Day tradition and perhaps it may become yours as well.

From Arlo Guthrie, this is Alice's Restaurant:

This song is called Alice's Restaurant, and it's about Alice, and the restaurant, but Alice's Restaurant is not the name of the restaurant, that's just the name of the song, and that's why I called the song Alice's Restaurant.

You can get anything you want at Alice's Restaurant You can get anything you want at Alice's Restaurant Walk right in it's around the back Just a half a mile from the railroad track You can get anything you want at Alice's Restaurant

Now it all started two Thanksgivings ago, was on - two years ago on Thanksgiving, when my friend and I went up to visit Alice at the restaurant, but Alice doesn't live in the restaurant, she lives in the church nearby the restaurant, in the bell-tower, with her husband Ray and Fasha the dog. And livin' in the bell tower like that, they got a lot of room downstairs where the pews used to be in. Havin' all that room, seein' as how they took out all the pews, they decided that they didn't have to take out their garbage for a long time.
